Lebleba tribute

It is possible to shorten the journey of " Lebleba " in one sentence is (art stole her life) .. but a charming theft as she describes.  The kind of theft, which gave her a chance to live an alternative life, without a family, children or a home. Therefore, she never regrets for a second choosing this lifestyle, which gave the chance to play most of the roles through cinema; the lover, the fiancée, and the wife. As we keep wondering, is it faith or choice, we realize that its her that seduced this theft to chance when her talent appeared at a very young age, when she went to a dancing and singing competition and showed very special talents and character among the other contestants. She was never satisfied with all the silent audience so she moved from her seat to start dancing and singing and imitating others, and this is what made her move to the theatre and meet the director “Niazi Moustafa” and “Abou Elseoud Elibiary” who gifted her with her acting name and sign a contract for her first acting job in the film “My Darling Susu”.  Since then, “Lebleba”whose real name is “Nonia” never stopped working in cinema, she might have worked as a singer and imitating stars, and participating in the annual concert “Lights of the city”at the time where it was a dream for any performer.  She used to perform before the great singer “Abdelhalim Hafez”, and since then she only worked in cinema and stopped singing, and later stopped working to be married for a short time and the only time, then back to continue her journey as an actress in 84 films, last but not least “Micky’s Family” in 2008 by the director Akram Fareed, as she portrayed a a role of a hard working mother for her kids, yet they never appreciate her. “Lebleba” played all kind of roles and portrayed very different characters during her journey, from the young naughty girl, to the aristocratic girl, and open minded one.  As she also portrayed many other roles while working with “Hassan Elseify”, “Hassan Elimam”, “Mahmoud Thulfukar, “Hussam Eldine Mustafa” and then a jump to work with “Hussein Kamal”in “Mouled Ya Donia” which was a completely different role for her, and later with “Mohammed Abdelaziz”and “Samir Seif” where she coupled with the actor “Adel Imam”in many films, and then with Atef Eltayeb who discovered her to play more complex roles before entering the world of “Youssef Chahine” and then after with “Osama Fawzy”, “Mohammed Abou Seif”and “Omar Abdelaziz”.  After, all the work in cinema she was offered a role in Television for the first time last year, where she worked with the actor “Adel Imam” her partner in part of her cinematic journey, which added a new expression of success and creativity to her life  and art whome she considers to be her partner in life.

Fayez Ghaly tribute

Fayez Ghali .... Goodbye

For the first time in this edition of the Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival, we will be missing our colleague and dear friend, the great scriptwriter Fayez Ghali, who passed away during this past year, and to a large extent we will miss his great presence, which goes hand in hand with him always, outspoken about his opinion on everything he thinks without feeling compelled to harmonize his thoughts with others, or give up even for a moment what he considers an absolute right to him, he also did not put the so-called effective distance ( Hedgehog-like ) between human beings; in the sense that if you release your thorns do not enter bodies of those around you ... So was Fayez and so were the expressions in his films, which felt like a window to expand his feelings and his unrestrained rush towards a world in which I can not imagine Fayez coping with.

So it was not surprising that Fayez Ghali is considered to be the voyage companion of the new phase in Egyptian cinema since the end of the seventies and even the nineties through the stages of the eighties ... He is the author for the first scenarios of the first films of his generation, he was for the best film of Hisham Abu Nasr’s  "Aqmar" in 1978 and the first film of Mohammed Khan " Sun Stroke" in 1980, then worked together in the movie "Revenge" in 1982 , and " Knight of the City" in 1992 , as well as the first film to Khairy Beshar, "Boat 70" in 1991, which was a real introduction to the director , and then worked with him in the one of the most important films "Bad Day, Good Day" in 1988 , as well as with Tariq al-Arian in his first  film "The Emperor" in 1990 ...

Perhaps, it could be a sign that he wrote all those first films to those directors, who are considered now the knights of Egyptian cinema, as a resounding declaration of their presence and the emergence of a new cinema in Egypt ... Fayez Ghali also worked with a number of other directors in a number of important films, such as Ashraf Fahmy in the movie "Woman under Surveillance" in 2000 and Inaam Muhammad Ali in one of the most important films "The Road to Eilat, " in 1994 , but the big dream that was never to be materialized; which was a film about Christ, as may the last years of his life, which was never completed. It is not just a film about Jesus Christ like the tens or hundreds of films that were made about him, but a film about our Egyptian Christ, relying on two lines and in response to one of the four Gospels , "The Gospel of Matthew" and compiled the story of Christ and the journey of the Holy Family in Egypt and through all the novels that were told about them, and perhaps then through the popular imagination of Egyptians about their Christ the Savior , Fayez Ghali wrote the screenplay of this film , which is a new vision that will add a lot to the collection of films that were made about the life of Jesus Christ, people’s dreamed of the lights and the popular conscience through his novel , or rather a certified conscience about him ... Left us, Fayez Ghali, but the echoes of rage and eternal questions that many of them remain unanswered, are still present among us, including this festival,  When it comes to Fayez’s work, it will remain important as a mark not only to its directors, but throughout the history of Egyptian.
